Hey Backers,
We are still in the process of generating our laser certification report. While it has taken significantly longer than expected, we have made a lot of progress! It is difficult to estimate exactly how long this process will take, as once we submit the report it will be out of our hands. We do intend to rush the process, however if certification is denied that would result in additional and unknown delays. That being said, we have contracted a very reputable laser certification consulting firm to assist us in generating the report. They have been incredibly helpful, and we are confident that with their services we will get it right the first time! Laser certification and CE certification are currently the only issues holding us back from beginning to ship printers.
New Shipment Arrivals
Just the other day we received our first shipment of coils on PCBs. This means that connecting the galvanometers to the circuit board will be quick and easy!
No more stripping and twisting wires! To connect the Galvanometers, you can simply make the connection using jumper cables and header pins.
We assembled 600 printers worth of these coil boards ourselves as a precaution in case we were ready to ship before this order arrived, and it’s a lot of work! We are greatly relieved to see that our supplier got everything right, and we’re happy to be able to outsource this part of the process.
We also received a large shipment of adhesive mirror… After testing samples, we made a smaller scale order, enough for 1000 printers, and the product was great! Recently we decided to purchase enough for the rest of the printers, and although we ordered the exact same thing our supplier got the specifications wrong rendering the whole shipment useless...
Anyone have a use for 550 sheets of Acrylic Mirror?
It’s very unfortunate when mistakes like this take place on a large scale, however it does happen from time to time. We should have no problem resolving this issue before it could have an affect our ability to ship.
In other news…
We recently updated our product photos to show the printer with it’s new laser safety features. Here’s a peek the latest printer head and enclosure design:
The latest version of the Peachy Kit, complete with the new coil boards and an optical sensor failsafe interlock which will prevent the laser from turning on if the protective enclosure is not in place.
The Peachy Printer pictured with the protective enclosure that will now be shipping with all kits.
Finally, we’ve been testing out new type of ceramic resin, and we’ve seen some incredibly exciting and promising results! We’ve also kicked off development on the Mount and Reservoir add on again. We’ll dive into the details on those two subjects in future updates...
Until Next Time,
The Peachy Printer Team.
Manufacturing Processes Part 2 - Circuit Production

Hey Backers
Today you’ll get to meet the newest addition to the Peachy Team! He’s going to tell you about some exciting stuff we’ve been working towards in the manufacturing department - in house PCB population. Check out the video to learn more:
The first circuit that we produced in house (right) beside a circuit that we ordered from a 3rd party manufacturer (left).
In Part 3 of our Manufacturing Processes series, we will look at some of the smaller and less technical tasks that are involved in producing a Peachy Kit.

Delivery Developments #2

Hey Backers,
In our last update we said “We are confident that all of the beta testers and most of the early birds will have kits in their hands by the end of January!”. While we may have been confident, we were also wrong. Don’t be alarmed though, we’ve made a lot of progress over the last few weeks... We are currently at about 70% completion on our first manufacturing run of 600 printers!
So why the delay? We ran into some major issues with our laser apertures when we started to scale up manufacturing. Long story short, we dove back into development and came up with a new aperture design and manufacturing process. We’ve since tested out our new aperture on a few prints and we’re happy to report that it’s working very well. Over the last two days we’ve manufactured 400 new apertures!
We’ve also been developing and testing a number of new safety features for the Peachy Printer in order to achieve Class 1 laser certification. Initially we thought the kit would be best shipped as a class 3B product, however after reaching out to a consultant we found that with a reasonable amount time and effort we could become a Class 1 product. Even though it’s very last minute, and it has come at the expense of a minor delay, we felt that this was the right thing to do. The changes we’re implementing will make the Peachy Kit significantly more safe to use, and safety is an area we must do our best in.
Last week we wrapped up development on the new safety features. Our consultant has reviewed the new features, and we plan to begin the self-certification process this week. We're excited to share the details of these new features with you in a later update.
It is these two things that have prevented us from making our first large shipment before the end of January. We are now hoping to have this shipment out by mid february. Those of you who will be receiving your printers in this shipment will also receive address confirmations soon, so please keep your eye out for that.
We’ve got a few exciting updates to come in the following days...
Until next time,
The Peachy Printer Team

Hey Backers,
This month we’ve been working long and hard to smooth out the kinks on our production line. We'd produce a kit, build and test it, make a list of known issues, implement solutions, and then repeat. Over the month of December we went through this cycle about 5 times. We implemented hundreds of small but important changes to the hardware, production tools, documentation, and organization of our system. As a result we can happily say we produced a batch of kits that require no changes!
The first official V1 kits off the line!
We will be sending one to our shipping partner, and the remaining 10 will go to a selection of beta testers. These first 10 will provide valuable feedback on the instructions, and help the support community scale smoothly as more people receive their printers over the coming months. These first printers will likely be sent out over the next week as we receive address confirmations.
We are now ready to start scaling up production runs. We are confident that all of the beta testers and most of the early birds will have kits in their hands by the end of January!
A couple of our inventory shelves. The shelf in the foreground is full of bins containing parts on their way into a Peachy Kit. The shelf in the background contains bins waiting to be filled with more parts.
There are nearly 90 unique parts bins in the system. The black bags (pictured) contain the red laser module for the scanner.
It has been an immense amount of work to set this system up, but we feel that we’ve done a good job. We look forward to showing you more of the production system that we’ve set up in subsequent manufacturing updates, so stay tuned!

Manufacturing Processes Part 1 - Laser Cut Materials

Hey Backers!
We figured we’d take you along for the ride as we move into manufacturing mode! In this multi update series we’ll be giving you a look at how a Peachy Kit gets made. Today we’re looking at manufacturing with the laser cutter. Check out the video below to see Erik pump out the first small batch of laser cut materials for delivery, and explain some of the details behind the process:
These are all the laser cut materials that go into a Peachy Kit!
So far the process has been going fairly well. We’ve been making improvements to our various production tools as we go along, and tracking the amount of time required for each task.
In part 2 we’ll be introducing you to a new guy here at Peachy, and he’ll be dropping some exciting news about circuit production! We also hear you folks asking for some new prints in the comments, so we’ve started working on that as well!
